Event Horizon headed to TV

Ed Willey

According to Variety, Paramount Television has done a deal with Amazon for a new series based on the 1997 sci-fi horror movie Event Horizon, you know, the one where *spoilers* Sam Neill gouges out his own eyes and gets a bit murder-y after being possessed by a spaceship.

Anyway, Adam Wingard will exec. produce the show along with Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin, and Jeremy Platt. Both Gordon and Levin were producers on the original film.

Wingard may also get involved with directorial duties given he’s just finishing up on Godzilla vs. Kong (due out March 2020) and previously directed the Blair Witch reboot and The Guest.

The movie starred the aforementioned Sam Neill and Lawernce Fishburne, and followed the story of a rescue team investigating a spaceship that mysteriously reappears after testing of its experimental gravity drive goes awry. Upon learning the ship travelled to a hellish dimension outside of the known universe and has become somewhat sentient, things do not go well for those on board.

Whilst pretty much panned by critics and moviegoers alike at the time, the movie picked up a solid cult following upon its release to homes everywhere. I’m sure the guys mentioned above will be aiming to avoid a similar situation.

Expect Event Horizon the TV show to debut at some point in the future.
