KORG is releasing version 3.0 of their KORG Gadget music production studio software for the Nintendo Switch, and with it, a couple of additional gadgets based on retro hardware sure to get the nostalgia glands flowing.
First up, ‘Otorii’ is a new drum machine built in collaboration with Sega and bearing more than a passing resemblance to the old 16bit Sega Genesis. As if that wasn’t enough, the sample packs come on faux carts that are loaded by slotting them into the top of the machine. It’s just a shame this is all software based as a hardware version would be amazing.
The seven packs available provide drum samples and sound fx from a selection of classic games from the system; Out Run, Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone, After Burner, Golden Axe, Rent A Hero and Power Drift.
Another new gadget, named ‘Ebina’, is inspired by the Darius arcade cabinet, and working with arcade legends Taito is a synth containing faithful recreations of sounds from games including Darius, Darius II, Ninja Warriors, Kikikaikai, Night Striker and Metal Black.
These both seem like ideal additions to an already impressive lineup of software. The new gadgets will hit the eShop on 11th July. Surely music to Switch producers ears.
