Witcher TV show to launch this year

Ed Willey

First announced back in 2017 Netflix has stated during an earnings call that much anticipated ‘The Witcher’ TV series will premiere within the last three months of the year.

And then you start seeing later in the fourth quarter some of our bigger film investments coming through like Irishman, like 6 Underground and also a big new original series that we’re currently shooting in Hungary called The Witcher, that is enormous European IP, very popular game and Book IP, that we think is going to make a really fun global series.

With Henry Cavill portraying the titular Witcher character, Geralt of Rivia, the series is said to be based on the book series, as opposed to the wildly successful video games.

It’s expected Netflix will be hoping The Witcher will fill the Game of Thrones shaped hole in peoples lives, once that series wraps up in the coming weeks. With its rich land of creatures, plotting monarchs and rebellious sorcerors, it’s definitely in with a shout and personally, as a huge fan of the games, I’m hoping they pull it off.
