In news not so shocking in one sense, but totally shocking in another Spider-Man: Far From Home is the first movie starring the webhead to cross the $1 billion line. Hot on the heels of Avengers: Endgame, and the first movie to show us life after Tony Stark in the MCU, it’s not surprising that audiences would flock to see what happens next. However what is surprising that none of 6 previous standalone Spider-Man movies has ever broken $1 billion.
Of the six prior movies, Spider-Man 3 comes in at second with a total global haul of $890.9 million at the worldwide box office. Being arguably the most popular solo superhero in the world this may come as a surprise to many. But the Spider-Man movie franchise has been tumultuous at best, with Spider-Man 3 going completely MENTAL with Emo Parker, to then be followed up by a pretty lacklustre pair of movies in the rebooted AMAZING Spider-Man flicks.
All of this back and forwards between universes and Spider-Men definitely shook fans and hindered audiences desire to see Spider-Man in the cinema. With the Amazing Spider-Man movies being the worst performing of all of Spideys adventures on the big screen (if we’re talking strictly live-action that is).
Anywho Spidey is back making the big bucks and things are looking bright for him in the MCU, let’s see how much more cash he can web up before Far From Home finishes its run in cinemas.
